CM Boys Soccer Gains Hard-Earned Senior Day Overtime Win, 3-2
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – It took better than 95 minutes of playing time, but the Central Mountain boys’ soccer team pulled out a 3-2 overtime win over Montoursville Saturday afternoon at Malinak Stadium.
It was a back-and-forth affair as the visiting Warriors took a 1-0 lead on a first half goal by Mason Winslow, fed by Dominick Peluzzi. Even though the Wildcats had an edge in shots throughout the game, goals were hard to come by. The ‘Cats pulled even with 2:52 to go in the first half, off an Asher Talbot goal.
Central Mountain took the lead at 2-1 at the 22:23 mark of the second half off a Peyton Jones score. But with just 5:29 remaining in regulation, the Warriors’ Brayden McKibben put in a spectacular shot from the right side, tying the contest at two; McKibben went down with a lower leg injury and did not return.
The game stayed tied at 2-2 through the first overtime period. Central Mountain increased its offensive pressure in the second overtime and with 4:12 remaining, Nate Brinker drilled a straight-in shot at the Montour goalkeeper. The ball went off his out-stretched hands and into the net for a 3-2 ‘Cat win.
Central Mountain outshot the visitors 17-8 as Wildcat goalkeeper Cy Probst made multiple solid saves. Corner kicks were 7-4 Montoursville.
The Wildcats honored the senior class members of the squad for their contributions to the program in a pregame ceremony that included: Damon Cherry, Cy Probst, Blaine Falk, Chase Young, Noah Thoala, Marcus Smith, Ryan Alexander and Grant Cole.
The victory evened CM’s record at 2-2 with Selinsgrove coming to Central Mountain, Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. Montoursville dropped to 0-3 with the loss.
