By Christopher Miller

GALLAGHER TOWNSHIP – Gallagher Township Supervisors met for their monthly meeting last Wednesday evening.

During the meeting, supervisors voted unanimously to open specific roads for shared vehicular traffic and ATV use.

The roads that were selected to be open include:

  • Carrier Road from Coudersport Pike to the border of the lands of the PA DCNR, 1.40 miles
  • Queens Run Road from Woodward Township boundary to Old Pike Road, 4.76 miles
  • Hollow Road from Queens Run Road to Coudersport Pike, 2.13 miles
  • Springers Corner Road from Coudersport Pike to Old Pike Road, 0.09 miles
  • Church Road from Coudersport Pike to the end of the road, 0.74 miles
  • Old PIke from Coudersport Pike to Gallagher Township boundary, 1.90 miles

“The biggest thing here is all of the restrictions we will have put in place,” township supervisor Will Mann said.

Below are the restrictions put in place:

  1. The speed limit of any AT is limited to the posted speed limit.
  2. The ATV must remain toward the right shoulder of the road.
  3. ATVs must travel single-file and may not be two or more abreast.
  4. Riders of ATVs must wear helmets.
  5. ATVs must be licensed and insured.
  6. Operators of ATVs must hold a valid driver’s license.
  7. The Township is not responsible for any ATV accidents or injuries which may occur on Township roads.
  8. Streets or portions thereof designated in this ordinance may be used only as transit roads from one point to another and may not be used for general purpose riding.
  9. No ATVs may be operated on a Township Road following a winter weather precipitation event until the Road has been cleared of snow/ice/precipitation by the Township.
  10. ATVs must have lighted head and tail lamps at all times during their operation.
  11. Reiders of ATVs must comply with the NRAT Rules as set forth by the Northcentral Regional ATV Trail.

The ATV Trails in Pennsylvania are open from Memorial Day through the last Sunday in September.
