City Council Discusses Use Requests, Seeks Funds for Treatment Plant

LOCK HAVEN – City Council met Monday evening for their bi-monthly meeting in council chambers.

In a fairly quick meeting with little discussion from the council, a number of items were passed.

Bad Adventure Company was permitted to camp overnight in Peddie Park for their overnight camping/kayaking excursion on Friday, May 23. Stipulations for this include the prohibition of playing baseball, golf, horseshoes, swimming, launching or docking any boats, archery, or locating buried objects with detection devices.

Commonwealth University-Lock Haven Athletics requested the use of the levee walkway on Sunday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for a community 5K race and fundraiser. Dubbed “Haven Hustle 5K,” the race will be a 3.2 mile walk/run to raise money for Lock Haven Athletics.

Council also passed the hanging of a banner for Clinton County Pride Alliance in the downtown area from June 8 – June 28. They also passed the use of Triangle Park to place six flags on flagpoles to display their Pride flags from June 26 to June 29 in celebration of their Pride in the Haven event on June 28. Mayor Joel Long and Councilwoman Heather Alexander were the only dissenting votes.

The city police force will have two new officers joining the ranks. Probationary Police Patrol Officers Landen Lose and Eric Young were appointed to their positions Monday evening.

Council also passed a motion to pursue PennVEST funding for improvements to the wastewater treatment plant and collection system in the estimated amount of $3.6 million dollars, and authorized the application for a PA Small Water & Sewer grant for the Susquehanna Avenue sanitary sewer rehabilitation project.

A commercial loan in the amount of $18,900 was granted to LSS Amusements for the purchase and placement of pinball machines to be located in various downtown businesses. The loan is termed over five years and carries a 3% interest rate.

Lastly, council passed Ordinance No. 2025-05 renaming an unnamed alley between West Bald Eagle Street and West Clinton Street to Tiger Den Alley. The renaming of the alley will be official at the May 19 meeting of city council.
