Lady Phoenix Top CMVT in Rainy Road Win
BLOOMSBURG – The Sugar Valley Lady Phoenix stayed focused through cold and wet conditions to earn a hard-fought 20-12 road win over CMVT on Monday night.
The Lady Phoenix came out swinging, scoring 11 runs in the first inning and adding 1-5-1-2 across the next four. CMVT made a late push with 3 runs in the final frame, but Sugar Valley had built a strong enough lead to hold on for the win.
The Lady Phoenix totaled 12 hits in the victory. Kayleigh Showers led the team with three singles. Olivia Johnson had a double and a single, while Olivia Clester added a double. Cheyenne Weaver, Ellynn Scarborough, and Lyla Breon each had two singles.
Head Coach Weaver said the girls “had a good night,” noting their poise in less-than-ideal conditions. “The cold and wet conditions made it challenging, but they stayed focused.”
Hattie Cinnamon got the start on the mound, pitching the first three innings before taking a brief break and returning to close out the game. “Cinnamon did a good job on the mound through 3 innings, gave her a little break, and came back to finish the game,” the coach shared.
The team also impressed at the plate. “The girls were disciplined at the plate, swinging at pitches they could drive. Johnson and Clester both had nice solid doubles. Multiple girls had some strong, hard-hit singles,” the coach added.
Defensively, Showers made a key deep catch in centerfield that kept CMVT from rallying. “Showers made a nice deep centerfield catch that would have given up some runs but also got us out of the inning,” the coach noted. Weaver was also steady behind the plate.
