Muncy uses pressure defense to win sixth straight with 70-37 win over Bucktail
By Bees O’Brien
FARWELL- Muncy is not a team that you can afford to turn the ball over 20 times and expect to win. Bucktail did just that on Saturday night in Farwell. The end result was a streaking Muncy team gaining their sixth straight win by a count of 70-37.
The Indians meanwhile only gave up 8 turnovers and played crisp, solid offense along with some tough defense.
The Bucks hung around early and only trailed the MPC West leaders 13-8 after one quarter. Muncy’s lead would swell in a hurry thanks to 13 Bucktail turnovers in the first half. The Indians’ 26-8 second quarter run gave the visitors a comfortable 20-point lead at 39-19 at the break.
Muncy’s 15-9 third quarter and a 16-9 fourth quarter would lock in the Indians’ season mark at 15-2 overall. The Bucks dropped to 7-9 on the season, but they’ll still remain in the hunt for a home court playoff game.
That hunt can be very much alive on Wednesday when they meet South Williamsport (11-5) in Farwell. The Bucks fell to the Mounties 69-58 back on December 14 in South Williamsport.
Gary Whipp led the Bucks with 11 points and Gavin Pick netted 9 points in the loss to Muncy.
Dominic Gaurdini led Muncy with 15 points. Nathan Rogers and Jaxton Frantz both added 12 in the win.
