Top ranked Indians take down Wildcats 61-47

By Bees O’Brian

COAL TOWNSHIP- Shamokin entered their home battle with Central Mountain as the top ranked team in District IV 4A. The Indians had compiled 14 victories thus far and the purple monster just kept rolling on Tuesday night.

Only Mount Carmel and Pottsville had been able to stop Shamokin up to this point. Shamokin’s 14-12 advantage after one quarter started the Indians off on the right track, but Central Mountain would fight in this PHAC matchup.

The Wildcats managed 15 second-quarter points, but Shamokin’s 18 point total gave them a 32-27 lead at intermission.

Central Mountain continued to hang with a Shamokin team that has knocked off some stiff competition this season. Shamokin’s 17-14 advantage in the third quarter stretched their lead to 49-41.

CM was well within striking distance, but a lackluster 6-point fourth quarter effort to the Indians’ 12 points set the final at 61-47.

Hunter Hoy’s 10 points led Central Mountain. Darius Shade added 8 points. Noah Wells, Caleb Mahoney and Blake Walker all added 7 points each for the now 5-10 Wildcats.

Central Mountain will next be in action on Friday when they travel to Jersey Shore.
