NoPo hands Lady Bucks 40-29 loss in home opener

By Bees O’Brien

FARWELL- Despite getting strong efforts from a trio of players, the Bucktail Lady Bucks dropped their third game of the season to a District 9 NTL opponent.

Northern Potter started off slow and trailed Bucktail 8-6 after one quarter. The Lady Panthers responded with a flurry in the second quarter by going on a 13-1 run in the frame and grabbed a 19-9 lead at the break.

Bucktail struggled to get anything going on the offensive end. Just three Lady Bucks managed to score on the night, while NoPo had a balanced attack that seen eight different Lady Panthers get themselves into the scoring column.

Northern Potter’s 14-4 third quarter advantage was the deciding factor. NoPo’s 33-13 lead heading into the final quarter of play set the stage for a final Bucktail run. The Lady Bucks finally found themselves reaching the basket and outscoring the visitors 16-7, but it wasn’t enough as Northern Potter escaped Farwell with the 40-29 win.

Kendall Wagner scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while swatting away 4 Lady Panther shot attempts. Matti Mason netted 10 points and collected 3 blocks of her own. Eva Sockman was held to just 3 points, but she was all over the glass grabbing 17 rebounds.

Hagnes led Northern Potter with 10 points. Steele chipped in 8 points in the victory.

Bucktail (1-3) will open up Mid Penn Conference at South Williamsport (1-1).
