LHU Men’s Basketball opens home slate with victory over Goldey-Beacom
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team opened its 2024-25 home schedule in style by taking down visiting Goldey-Beacom, 82-73, in a non-conference battle on Tuesday night (Nov. 19) inside Thomas Fieldhouse.
Lock Haven improves to 2-3 overall, while Goldey-Beacom also moves to 2-3.
The Haven shot over 55 percent in both halves and finished the game a smooth 28-of-50, while knocking down seven trifectas to secure the victory at home.
With the score tied coming out of the break, the schools continued to trade leads through the opening five minutes.
Blake Deegan scored four of the six Lock Haven points starting at the 16:36 mark to give the Bald Eagles a 49-48 advantage with just over 15 minutes remaining.
Lock Haven never relinquished the lead from there and led by as much as 11 in the half on its way to victory.
For the Bald Eagles, Eli Washington led the way with 25 points, six assists and a game-high four steals. Washington knocked down a team-high seven free throws and finished 2-of-3 from behind the arch.
Kevin Coleman dominated the glass and secured a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double, while also adding three blocks and three steals.
Isaiah Stewart added nine points, five assists and a pair of steals and Deegan also finished with nine points.
In the first half, Goldey-Beacom forced 13 turnovers, but Lock Haven shot 56 percent (13-of-23) from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point land (5-of-10) and the game headed into the break deadlocked at 34-34. Washington led the way for The Haven with eight points and four assists. Coleman pulled in seven rebounds and blocked two shots in the half.
The Bald Eagles opened the season with four consecutive road contests before returning to Thomas Fieldhouse on Tuesday night to host the Lightning in a non-conference battle.
