RENOVO – A lifelong love for reading is a treasured gift, and now those in Renovo Borough can have access to books 24/7/365 thanks to a donation from the Kiwanis Club of Bald Eagle and Nittany Valleys.
“I met with Renovo Borough and asked if we can install a Little Free Library,” said Kiwanis member Amy Strong.
The Kiwanis Club of Bald Eagle and Nittany Valleys is extremely passionate about children’s literacy. They hand out free books at every event that they host or participate in, the most recent being the Annual Kids Day which was held on Saturday, July 13th at the Mill Hall Fire Department. They have volunteers from the group that read to the children at the Infant Development Program. They also set up booths and give away books at “Reading Under The Lights” at both Central Mountain and Bucktail.
The public can visit their booth at Central Mountain on Tuesday, September 17th from 6-7:30pm. The booth at Bucktail will be held on Wednesday, September 25th from 6-7:30pm. Each year the Kiwanis Club also holds an amazing Christmas event at the Mill Hall Middle School where new books are given away to each child.
During a meeting a couple months ago, the organization discussed the opportunity to acquire another Little Free Library. It was mentioned by BENV member, Amy Strong, that “Renovo would be a wonderful community to share it with.”
This will be the second that BENV Kiwanis were honored to receive. The first one was placed at Long Run Park in Rote.
Amy quickly reached out to the Renovo Borough Council to see if there was any interest.
As steward of the Little Free Library, Amy will keep it stocked with books that are free for the community to share. Anyone may take a book: neighbors, friends, and passersby – the books are always free. Book donations are also welcome. The Little Free Library is located at Renovo’s 16th Street Park.
