LHU Baseball drops twinbill at Charleston
CHARLESTON, W.V. – The Lock Haven baseball team (3-5 overall) kicked off its weekend in West Virginia with a non-conference doubleheader at Charleston University (6-3 overall) on Saturday (March 2).
The Bald Eagles dropped the doubleheader, 6-3, 8-2.
Lock Haven falls to 3-5 during the early spring and will return to the diamond to conclude the series with Charleston with a doubleheader starting at noon.
Game One: Charleston 6, Lock Haven 3
In the series opener, Charleston scored six runs on eight total hits and the hosts used a five-run bottom half of the fourth to pull away.
Lock Haven scored three runs on six hits, including a pair of hits from Connor Griffin (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) who was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Greg Cristino (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) and Cam Gracey Spring (Grove/Elementary Education) each drove in a run, while Gavin Neal (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) added a double.
Kevin Worek (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington) was dealt the loss on the mound, finishing with six runs allowed and a strikeout in 3 and 1/3 innings of work. Will Stambaugh (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) struck out a pair in 2 and 2/3 innings of relief.
Game Two: Charleston 8, Lock Haven 2
In game two, the Bald Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after scoring a pair on two wild pitches, but the Golden Eagles countered with two runs in the bottom half to tie the game.
Charleston scored eight runs over the following five innings and the Bald Eagles offense went cold to allow the Golden Eagles to earn the sweep on the day.
Zachary McEllroy (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) notched the lone Bald Eagles’ base knock, while Francisco Taveras (Muhlenberg, Pa./Muhlenberg) stole a pair of bases and reached base safely three times with three walks.
Matt Lingenfelter (State College, Pa./State College) battled through five innings of work, allowing four earned runs and striking out four.
