Ayers, Coudersport too much for the Bucks on Senior Night
By Bees O’Brien
FARWELL, PA- Gavyn Ayers is one of the top stars within the District 9 Region 3 and on Friday night he proved that against Bucktail. Ayers would rack up 165 yards on just 11 carries, 6 of which would be touchdowns in the Falcons’ 48-20 Region 3 win. The victory would give Coudersport the outright league title following a 2022 season which saw them share the league crown with Cameron County.
Ayers would strike first and often against a Bucks’ team that would commit four turnovers on the night. A pair of 1-yard scores from the Coudersport quarterback and two Dylan Howard extra point kicks had the visitors up 14-0.
Bucktail senior Braylon Fantaski would electrify the crowd on the ensuing kickoff. Fantaski would race 91 yards for the touchdown, but Bucktail’s try for two points would fail.
Bucktail trailed 14-6 when Ayers would find Danny Vanvladricken on a 36-yard bomb down to the Bucks’ 10-yard line. Ayers would race in from there with his third touchdown of the night.
Coudersport led 21-6 when Viggo Brown would pick off a Brody Pentz pass for a 20-yard pick six to extend Coudy’s lead to 27-6.
Ayers would then take over in the second quarter. He would score from 25 yards out and then burst for a 50-yard score with 2:34 left in the half.
Bucktail trailed 41-6 at the break.
Gavyn Ayers would have accumulated 140 yards and 5 scores in the first half alone, but the Falcon senior had one more run left in him. Ayers would break a 25-yard run for pay dirt on his final attempt of the evening.
Coudersport led 48-6 heading into the game’s final quarter and the mercy rule applied.
Tanner Pettingill would score on a 2-yard run and Fantaski would score the two-point conversion and fellow senior Brett Mason would score on a four yard run to set the final at 48-20 in favor of visiting Coudersport.
Brody Pentz led Bucktail with 75 yards on the ground. Pettingill added 50. The Bucks were held to a season low 175 yards rushing. Coudersport, behind Ayers racked up 228 yards on the ground and 331 yards of total offense.
Coudersport improved to 6-3 and have now won five straight games. They will square off with Cowanesque Valley on Thursday. Bucktail’s regular season ends at 5-4 and they will now await next weekend when District 4 releases their playoff pairings. The Bucks are currently number 4 and could potentially host a quarterfinal game.
