Lock Haven City Mayor declares Water State of Emergency
LOCK HAVEN, PA-The Mayor of the City of Lock Haven Joel Long has issue a State of Emergency on the water supply serving the city and Suburban water customers because the reservoir is depleting faster than it can be refilled. The complete release from city officials is below:
The Mayor of the City of Lock Haven has issued a Proclamation of State of Emergency as the water supply serving the city’s and Suburban’s customers continues to deplete at a rate greater than the reservoirs can refill.
While customers have been requested to make voluntary reductions in water use of at least 20%, the amount of water used by customers continues to exceed the amount of water being replenished into the city’s reservoirs in Greene Township (Ohl Dam) and Wayne Township (Keller Dam).
For that reason, the Mayor has proclaimed the State of Emergency instituting Stage II of the joint Drought Contingency Plan of the city, Suburban Lock Haven Water Authority, and the Central Clinton County Water Filtration Authority.
At the regular meeting of City Council on Monday, October 16 at 7 o’clock in Council Chambers, City Council will discuss not only the mandatory restrictions that will be put in place as part of State II Drought, but also the cost that will be necessary to access a supplemental water source by mid- to late-November to ensure that the system can continue to meet even reduced customer demand.
Residents and businesses must continue to take serious steps to reduce water consumption for the benefit of their fellow neighbors, businesses, medical, and education facilities. We must work together as a community to help each other through this critical time.
