Central Mountain Softball Tops Williamsport for win #5

By Tom Elling

MILL HALL- The Lady Wildcats use a balanced 9-hit attack to avenge their only loss this season, downing Williamsport, 7-2. On April 1 (no joke) Williamsport racked up 16 runs to outlast the Lady ‘Cats, 16-13. This time around, there was little Tom-foolery as the Taylor Thompson’-lead team scored at least one run in every inning and produced three run in both the 3rd and 4th innings.

Cirstyn Watson and Aubrey Miller had two hits apiece with each rapping a double. Watson had two RBI and contributed defensively over and over, including an outstanding catch in inning number one.

Katelyn Bowman slapped a double and made two foul-pop putouts, while Taylor Doyles’ triple to right center plated a run in the 4th.

In the post-game interview, Coach Thompson pointed out the hitting production up an down the line-up. “We believe we have solid hitters one-through-nine in our lineup.” The girls really wanted this game after our loss in Williamsport, and we liked the better weather,” she smiled.

Josey Shutltz earned the win on the mound. She mixed her pitches well. She struck-out five while allowing four walks.

The Lady ‘Cats are now 5-1 and will head to Bloomsburg on Monday (April 21), followed by another road trip to Shikellamy on Thursday.

Coach Thompson, who was a standout player for early Central Mountain teams and a record-setter for Lycoming College, emphasized that her team will ‘continue to practice hard and hope to build on their three-game win streak.’

Williamsport had a two-hit effort from their pitcher Ashlyn Robinson, including a two-RBI triple.
