Coleman New CM Volleyball Coach

Home Tourney Kick-off Saturday

cm-volleyballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – A former Central Mountain High School volleyball player will bring a new look to the head coaching position for the Lady Wildcats this season.

The new coach is Megan Coleman, a 2005 Central Mountain grad and a volunteer assistant with the volleyball program for the past three seasons, so Coleman is familiar with the program and its six returning letter-winners.

Coleman said she hopes to build on that familiarity:
“I’ve had great training and have learned a lot from the previous head coach (Beth Mahfood) and assistant coach (Bill Counsil). I’m hoping that changing head coaches is a smooth transition for the girls and they will adapt quickly, simply because I’m not a new face in the gym. I have some wonderful assistants this year and looking forward to what they can help bring to the program as well.

The Lady Wildcat returning letter-winners are seniors Jordan Kinley, Taylor Knarr, Avery Turner and Karli Weaver and juniors Loren Marasco and Karli Coleman.

Coach Coleman said all the players are working hard: “They know where they are at skill wise and where they need to be.”

After the team’s first scrimmage last week she said they know what they need to work on in preparation for the start of the season and feels “we should be able to compete on a competitive level with all the teams on our schedule.”

She said her ultimate goal is improvement.  “I know we’re not going to win every match, but I will be happy if we can improve every match. I’d love for the girls to make playoffs. I think we’re capable of it as long as we continue to work as hard as we have the past few weeks for the entire season. I think it’s an awesome opportunity and great experience for the girls.”

Coleman said there will be a stress on “team vs. individual success…and we have a great group of girls this year who understand this tremendously.”

The season will kick-off this Saturday at 8:30 a.m. as the Lady Wildcats host their fifth annual tournament. Teams competing, in addition to Central Mountain, are returnees Canton, Cameron County, Penns Valley, Philipsburg-Osceola, West Branch, Bellefonte, Troy and Wellsboro and newcomers Shamokin, Towanda, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy. Tournament admission is free.

First regular season game is at Huntingdon next Tuesday.
