LOCK HAVEN – The City of Lock Haven this week announced the schedule for the city’s 2014 free concert series and Mayor Rick Vilello unabashedly proclaimed he is “excited” with the offerings among the 23 musical events split between the Corman Amphitheatre and the downtown Triangle Park.

Vilello said the lineup is “the best yet” and if “you’re not there, you’re a square.”

As released by the city’s concert committee, this summer’s slate opens on Friday, June 6 at Triangle Park with a repeat performance from the Keystone Society of Swing.
The first concert at the floating stage will be Sunday, June 15, with local favorites Snug.

A highlight this summer, Vilello noted, is the June 22 riverside performance from Beatlemania Magic, a Beatles tribute band from Ohio. The appearance will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the first U.S. appearance by the band from Liverpool, Great Britain.

Floating stage regular Hybrid Ice, historically one of the biggest summer concert draws, will return July 27. Another river highlight will be a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, Tusk, on August 24.

The Friday Triangle Park series will see the return of many past favorites. These include the big band/swing offerings from the Lindy Sisters, the visit by the California trio timed to coincide with their annual appearance at the Sentimental Journey to Cub Haven.

A committee spokesman said there will not be a Friday, July 4, concert because of the many other holiday-related events going on in the area on that date.

As in past years, in case of inclement weather, a number of floating stage concerts will be relocated indoors to the Lock Haven Elks Lodge; in addition to Beatlemania Magic, Hybrid Ice and Tusk, these are Runaway Dorothy, an Americana Country group on July 20 and the classic soul Christopher Dean Band on August 3.

2014 marks the 15th year for the summer concert series. The Record is among the local media sponsors and a number of governmental/community organizations making the free concert series possible.

The complete 2014 schedule is listed inside this week’s print edition of The Record and is available at “therecord-online.com.”
