LOCK HAVEN – The Clinton County Planning Commission has approved a rezoning so that housing can be built on the Clinton Country Club golf course in Bald Eagle Township.

The planning board at its Tuesday meeting approved the request submitted by the club’s Lycoming County-based owners, the Williamsport Hospitality Group. The change is from open-space – recreation to high density residential.

The ownership group was represented by Mike Bolsar. He said plans for development are preliminary but would make use of some of the 25 acres of the 50 acre site located out of the floodway. He later told The Record that a marketing study is underway, that there has been considerable discussion as to where either houses or town houses would be built adjacent to what is now an 18-hole golf course. He indicated there likely would be some redesign to the more than 100-year-old golf course located between Fishing and Bald Eagle Creeks.

The planning commission gave unanimous approval to the request. County planner Kate de Silva noted the 50 acre site was the only designated open space – recreation plot in Bald Eagle Township.

The planning board also approved a land development plan submitted for Whitetail Estates II off Beagle Road in Lamar Township. Owners B.J. Batterson and David Strouse said their plans call for 10 residential lots on the nearly 39 acre site.

The meeting saw Terry Murty reelected as commission chairman, Dave Calhoun as vice-chairman and Larry Sheats as secretary.
