Central Mountain Takes Second at CV Classic

LANCASTER – It was another up-and-down day for Central Mountain at the 2017 Conestoga Valley Holiday Wrestling Classic. The ‘Cats finished with one champ and placing 10 wrestlers in all.

The Wildcats began the day in the No. 1 slot of the team standings but faltered a bit in the semi-final round, then rebounded in the finals to finish a strong second place with 169.0 points behind Central Dauphin with 197.0 and ahead of Owen J. Roberts with 166.0.

Asher Corl (160) was the lone champ for Central Mountain with a 2-0 decision over Juniata’s Jared Heister in the championship Finals. CM’s other finalist, Seth Andrus (132) was pinned by Central Dauphin’s Andrew Wert in 1:37 to finish second.

Wrestling for third place, Wildcat, Johnny Shreffler (113) came up short against Timothy Uhler of New Oxford losing a 7-0 decision to finish fourth. Tanner Weaver (170) picked up a third place medal with a major decision over Zach Jones of Rock Ridge, 11-0.

Mahlik Houtz (220) was the lone Wildcat wrestling for a fifth place medal with his second win of the tournament over Philipsburg-Osceola’s, Josh Hubler, this time with a 5-2 decision. Houtz beat Hubler in the quarterfinal round, 3-0.

CM’s Dalton Bechdel (120) was edged by Andrew Dairychuck of Conestoga Valley in a 3-2 decision to finish eighth. Cody Coleman (138) picked up a seventh place medal with a fall over Hunter Burke of Lake Lehman in 2:16. Logan Long (145) also finished strong for Central Mountain, pinning Alex O’Neil of Exeter in 0:55. Not to be outdone, Austin Confer (182) added some bonus points to the Central Mountain cause when he decked Jack Conrad of Red Lion in 4:05 to finish seventh. Max Money of Bellefonte spoiled Tanner Riggle’s (195) last match of the day, edging the Wildcat 4-0.

Next action for the Wildcats will be a regular season dual meet when they host rival, Jersey Shore on Thirsday, Jan. 4 2017.
