Fallon Temporarily Shut Down

LOCK HAVEN – The owners of the Fallon Hotel have temporarily closed the Water Street landmark after the heating system failed on Wednesday of this week.

A spokesman for the hotel told therecord-online the hotel boiler failed on Wednesday and tenants were requested to vacate the premises while repairs are completed. She said there are currently five residents of the three-story structure which pre-dates the Civil War.

A tenant carrying a framed picture and personal belongings in a plastic bag was exiting the front steps Thursday morning. He said he and his wife had to leave their second floor living quarters and did not know where they would be relocating.

City code officer Cyndi Walker said the Mantles informed the city of the furnace malfunction and temporary closure after it occurred. The closing also affects the hotel’s first floor bar.

The hotel, much of which has sat empty in recent years, was the site of an arson fire in September of this year. Firemen put a quick hit on that blaze in a rear first floor stairwell and an arrest was subsequently made.
