Bulldogs Dominate Wildcats, 49-14

cm-football JERSEY SHORE – The Jersey Shore Bulldogs had a few hiccups along the way during a much anticipated 2017 season. But ‘Shore sure is playing well right now, showing strength on both side of the ball Friday night in a 49-14 takedown of Central Mountain.

Jersey Shore finished the season 7-3, winning their final three regular season games in convincing fashion, none more so than Friday night. With junior tailback Kyle Tomb running and senior quarterback Elijah Shemory passing, the Bulldogs blitzed to a 49-0 lead after three periods and coasted home.

The victory likely secured a third seed in the District 4 Class 4A playoffs beginning next weekend, the likely opponent Selinsgrove. The previously top-seeded Seals (8-2) lost their final regular season game to undefeated Class 2A power Southern Columbia (10-0) by a 42-21 score. Shikellamy (8-2) likely ascended to the top seed with a 56-21 win over Milton.

Jersey Shore was stopped on its first possession Friday but not many times after that. Tomb had a career night, surpassing 100 yards in rushing in the first period alone. He finished with 183 yards and five touchdowns. Shemory helped out with a 9-for-17 passing night, including a picture-perfect 44 yard scoring strike to Hunter Frantz.

Meanwhile the Bulldog defense held Central Mountain at bay. Led by linebackers Dom Williams and Hunter O’Connor, they held the Wildcats to a season-low minus-12 yards rushing. Central Mountain was able to score two late touchdowns, one on a 90-yard kickoff return from sophomore Rocco Stark, the other on an Austyn Carson to Asher Corl 67-yard pass.

Carson would finish his final game completing 15-of-26 passes for 143 yards. Corl led the Wildcat receivers with four catches for 87 yards. Trevor Hanna caught three for 28 yards and Evan Prough two for 48.

Central Mountain played hard throughout and finished 1-9. The game was marked by great sportsmanship from both teams, the contest played before a large crowd at Thomson Street Stadium.
