Penn State Demolishes Georgia State, 56-0

psu-footballUNIVERSITY PARK – It was billed as a likely mismatch when Georgia State came to Penn State Saturday night and the game lived up to its billing as the Nittany Lions, now 3-0, dismantled the Panthers by a 56-0 score.

Penn State’s backfield tandem of quarterback Trace McSorley and running back Saquon Barkley put on another show. McSorley completed 18 of 23 passes for 309 yards, including a Beaver Stadium-record 85-yard touchdown pass to Barkley. McSorley came out blazing in the first half, going 14 for 19, good for 258 yards as Penn State built a 35-0 lead. Barkley meanwhile totaled 226 total yards, despite leaving the field briefly in the second period following a tackle. The two standouts played only one series in the second half before coach James Franklin went to his reserves for the remainder of the game.

Penn State finished with eight touchdowns and 529 yards of total offense. Meanwhile the Penn State defense pitched its second shutout of the season and has surrendered only one touchdown.

Penn State moves to 3-0 on the year and begins Big Ten play next Saturday night at Iowa. The Hawkeyes are also 3-0, coming off a 31-14 win over North Texas.
