Pine Creek Township Fatal Shooting Labeled Homicide Investigation

PINE CREEK TOWNSHP — State police say it was another man who shot and killed a Jersey Shore man in a forced entry at a trailer home near Avis overnight on Wednesday. Their probe into what is now called a homicide investigation continues.

Police today provided their first update since the mid-week incident which left Cody J. Englert dead of what authorities are saying were multiple gunshot wounds. The Friday afternoon news release from state police and the office of Clinton County District Attorney Dave Strouse is labeled “homicide investigation” and reads in part as follows:

“The investigation has revealed that on 9/13/17 at 1:50 a.m. Cody Englert forced his way into the home of a known resident at the above location (925 W. Fourth St.). Englert was fatally shot by a male resident after he entered the residence. Investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is ongoing. The occupants of the residence are cooperating in the investigation. There is no danger posed to the community, as this is an isolated incident. All elements of both criminal intent AND justification are being examined so that all leads are exhausted prior to rendering a conclusion.”

Investigating trooper Stephen Dunkle said in his report that an autopsy was conducted on Wednesday at Mt. Nittany Medical Center: “Cause of death is multiple gunshot wounds, manner of death is homicide (circumstances of homicide are being examined for justification/lack of justification).”

State police said the district attorney has provided legal guidance throughout their investigation. They made a point to say that no further details can be released at this time, “so as not to jeopardize the investigative process.” They said no arrests have been made at this time, although the identity of the shooter is known by the police and the district attorney. Police said it is their policy to not release information of individuals unless formally charged, “thus information concerning the shooter will not be released with this submission.”
