Salvation Army Kettle Effort Facing Shortfall

from staff reports

LOCK HAVEN – The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign has been part of the Clinton County community for decades and decades.

But this year with proceeds from the bell-ringing campaign lagging, the local Salvation Army’s efforts to help many needy families is in jeopardy.

Corps Officer Major Marie Harris attributed the prospective shortfall to one less week between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year: “In 2012, The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign raised $42,542 in our community but due to Thanksgiving coming a week late this year our donations are down by $9,000.  We are in a crisis with relatively few kettle days left.”

Harris said the need this year is at an all time high. “We will be assisting 430 families and adults with food for their Christmas dinner and extras to get them through the holidays as the children are out of school for Christmas break. There are Christmas toys needed for hundreds of children who would not have something under their tree on Christmas morning.”

She said community support will ensure that The Salvation Army can continue to do the most good for those in need this holiday season and throughout the year. “When you hear the bell ringing it’s a reminder that there are children and adults who need your help!”

Kettles located at Kmart, Northwest Bank, Save A Lot, Calico Creek and Wal-Mart. In addition Arby’s, Aungst Family Restaurant, Mill Hall Pharmacy, Restless Oaks Restaurant, and Uncle Joe’s Woodshed accept counter kettle donations.

For those unable to get out to the kettles you can also give a donation online at www.salvationarmylockhaven.org or mail your check to the Salvation Army 119 East Church St. Lock Haven, PA 17745.  For more information please call 570-748-2951.
