Jr. Crickets Edged by Downingtown 1-0 in Pitcher’s Duel

leg-ba-logo2PENNSBURG – Beech Creek (17-3) lost a heart breaker to Dowingtown (15-8) 1-0 in an old fashion 9 innings of baseball game.

It was a classic pitchers duel between AJ Smith (5-1) and Jack Hurley both starting pichers went 8 innings. Smith even gutted it out until the ninth inning. He was able to get the first guy out in the bottom of the ninth with a strike out. Tim McNeed doubled and the next batter was hit. Kolten Parker then came into the game and got a ground ball but there was a error on the play. Loading the bases for Andrew Rite and Parker just needed three pitches for the strike out. Aaron Sipes then came up and hit a ball right in five hole to plate the game winning run.

Smith got the heart breaking loss who pitched his heart out throwing 8 1/3 innings. He allowed 1 run, twos hits, 3 walks and had 8 strike outs.

Beech Creek bats were held silent by Jack Hurley who pitched into the eighth inning. BC was only able to have one hit and that was from starting pitcher AJ Smith. BC did have ten walks as a team and couldn’t plate a run. They left seven runners on base over nine innings of play.

The Junior boys had several chances the biggest coming in the top of the ninth. Where the boys got back to back walks from Tanner Lavelle and Ross Glossner. Brady Eck hit a line drive right to the center fielder for the second out. Zach Eck then worked a full count walk to load the bases for Trevor Hanna. Hanna worked the count to 1-1 and he hit a fly ball to the first baseman getting the new pitcher Harrison Jonik out of the bases load jam.

Beech Creek will have to regroup and come back tomorrow to extend the season. They will play tomorrow at 1:00pm vs the host team Upper Perk (5-18)
