key-base-logoSUNBURY – After falling to Shik-Acorn 14-3 in dismal fashion in the first game, Keystone fought back with a balanced attack that revealed their depth and perseverance to claim the 2016 Intermediate 50/70 State Little League title.

Shik-Acorn scored at will while putting on a hitting clinic pounding out 13 hits in Game 1 and were never really concerned about the outcome. Keystone did mount a late rally, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning but it turned out to be too little too late.

After a short intermission and a brief reprieve from the July sweltering heat, Keystone was refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to prove why they were the winner’s bracket champs. Fortunes turned, Keystone was getting the clutch hits, using opportunistic base running and making awesome plays in the outfield. All of which bolstered Keystone’s position as the momentum swung their way.

Stringing together their own version of an offensive onslaught, Brady Williams had a triple 1 RBI, Colty Wagner went 2-3 and a RBI, Peyton Johnson was 1-4 with a RBI, Landyn Carson was 1-2 a RBI Trevor Adair 3-3 with a triple and a stolen base, Gavin Toner 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI Austin Wheeler triple and 2 RBI, Nick Long 1-2 and a RBI
Zane Probst 1-4 with a booming homer to center field and 2 RBI.

In Game 2, Colty Wagner went six innings on the mound and kept Shik-Acorn in check striking out 8 batters in the process.

Riley Houser was called upon to close the game, though she did give up two runs in the effort she also had two solid strikeouts and never lost confidence that she and her defense would prevail.

It should also be noted that Nick Long put in 14 innings of solid play at catcher, battling a formidable opponent and the extra burden of his protective gear on an extremely hot day.

Next, Keystone will travel to Long Island for the Intermediate 50/70 Baseball East Regional Tournament hosted by Commack & Dix Hills, N.Y. Little League – July 22-28. The East regional is a tournament of state champions from Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania.
