HYNER — There will be a record-breaking turnout for the tenth annual Hyner View Trail Challenge this Saturday and again it is a “sell-out,” capped this year at 1,300 entries.

As has been the case the last two years, there will be a 50 kilometer trek, for experienced runners only, heading out at 8 a.m., runners expected to be done in nine hours or less; that field was limited to the first 300 entrants. The 25 kilometer follows at 9 a.m., open to runners and hikers alike. Challenge organizers said there will be cut-off times in place to ensure a daylight finish.

As in the past the challenge will start from the Western Clinton County Sportsmen’s Association. Participants are advised to arrive early to pick up their race bag and bib; registration will end at 8:30 a.m.

Race promoters bill the event as “We run, rain or shine, Hell or high water.” Weather shouldn’t be a factor this Saturday, the forecast for partly cloudy skies with a high in the mid 60s.

Participant parking will again be available at the airfield across Route 120 from the WCCSA entrance road.

As in the past the course is designed to challenge each individual both mentally and physically. There are three major climbs and three major descents over a course filled with vistas, stream crossings and single track paths.

Some 150 volunteers from the local area will again be involved in staging the mammoth event.
