Central Mountain Finishes Second in Team Race

cm-wrestlingLANCASTER – Central Mountain had eight wrestlers vying for medals in the final round and brought home two champions, a runner-up, a fourth place, a fifth place winners and two 8th place finishers for their efforts to end up in second place in the team standings with 169.0 points behind Exeter with 215.5.

Geo Barzona led up to his No.1 seed as he accumulated a bye and four falls en route to his tournament title. The latest was a 1:26 pin of Rya Watts of Exeter.

Isaac Porter also had a great tournament at 220 pounds recording two pins and a decision until he lost to Westfield’s Jay Aiello, 8-1 in the finals to finish second which matched his seeding for the tourney.

Hunter Weaver at 220 pounds had a great effort recording two pins and two decisions at Conestoga to earn his title over Connor Mitchell, Owen J Roberts, 6-3 who was the No. 1 seed. Weaver’s win over Mitchell avenged the two losses at this year’s King of the Mountain tournament.

Colton Weaver at 145 had a strong showing in the bottom bracket until he met Seth Baney of Huntingdon in the championship final for third place, where Baney pinned Weaver in 3:34.

At 285, Bryce Bitner placed fifth with a sudden victory 3-1 decision over Jared Pegher of Fox Chapel.

Logan Long at 132 pounds also had a great showing in the consolation rounds but had to settle for a sixth place finish when he was edged by Stone Bissland of Owen J Roberts 5-3 in the finals.

Tanner Weaver (152) and Brandon Miller (160) both received medals for eighth place after strong showings in the wrestle backs.

Other District 6 teams at the tournament were: Huntingdon in fifth place, 158.5; Bellefonte in sixth place, 145.0; and Philipsburg-Osceola in 11th place with 83.5 points.

Next up for the Wildcats is a read trip to Midd-West for a Heartland Conference dual meet on Jan. 7, 2016.
