First Quality Buys Quebec Plant

GREAT NECK, N.Y. – First Quality Enterprises, Inc and Canadian-based Fempro I Inc this week announced that Fempro has joined the First Quality Group of companies and will now be known as Fempro Consumer Products ULC.

The acquisition gives First Quality its first manufacturing facility in Canada. A First Quality release said Fempro is a company with 20 years of experience in manufacturing private label and national brand feminine hygiene products and absorbent food pads in Canada. Fempro’s 180,000 square foot manufacturing facility is located in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada, with a workforce over 150 employees.

The First Quality announcement said “Fempro’s complementary product lines will further diversify First Quality’s feminine hygiene product portfolio. In addition, the acquisition will provide First Quality with a strategic physical presence in Canada from which to expand its product offerings to the Canadian consumer.”

First Quality started its operations in Clinton County 26 years ago and is the county’s leading employer. Next up locally is installation of a third tissue machine for its Lock Haven site. That announcement was made in December of last year and once constructed and put into production will add another 184 local jobs. There has been no word to this point as to when construction will begin. Last December’s announcement talked of a December 2016 completion date.
