Chance Marsteller set for World Championships
LOCK HAVEN, PA – Chance Marsteller, a 2019 Lock Haven graduate and former two-time All-American for the men’s Division I wrestling team, is set to represent the United States at the 2023 Senior World Championships.
The World Championships will get underway on Sept. 16 in Belgrade, Serbia. Marsteller will represent Team USA at 79kg and that weight class is scheduled to compete Sept. 17-18.
Marsteller will be joined by a familiar face in current Lock Haven assistant coach Ronnie Perry (’17, ’19).
Perry was selected by Marsteller as his training partner for the national championships.
Marsteller and Perry have spent the better part of the last week in Germany for acclimation camp and the two will head to Serbia with the world championship bound national team in the coming days.
Marsteller booked his world championship team spot on June 10 when he bested Olympic gold medalist and World Champion Jordan Burroughs in a best-of-three series at 79kg to win Final X.
On the mats in Mat-Town, Marsteller and Perry helped power the rise of the program and the Bald Eagles return to national prominence.
At the 2018 NCAA Division I Championships in Cleveland – in front of a sold-out crowd at Quicken Loans Arena – the two provided one of the most dramatic moments in recent Lock Haven wrestling history. Just seconds after Marsteller clinched All-American status, Perry’s Cinderella run to the finals continued as he punched his ticket to the championship bout.
