WAGNER WINS BRONZE FOR THIRD STATE MEDAL

By Joe Walker

HERSHEY – The 2025 PIAA Girls State Wrestling Individual Championships are in the books and for Central Mountain Lady Wildcat junior Kendall Wagner it was a very successful tournament, as the Bucktail four-sport athlete came away with a third place finish, her third state place finish.

Wagner went 4-1 in the tournament to finish her junior season with a 29-8 record and improved her career mark to 74-24. She finished in fourth place two seasons ago when the PIAA had not sanctioned the sport yet, but then last season in the first under PIAA sanction she finished in eighth place. You have to notice that both of the Central Mountain wrestling programs state place winners are also Bucktail students.

Impressive credentials for a young lady who also plays basketball for the Lady Bucks of Bucktail at the same time as wrestling. When a lot of the girls she wrestles against are working out in the wrestling room, Kendall spends nights on the basketball court and a lot of nights she does both.

Wagner will now put her wrestling singlet away and get her softball gear out and head to the softball diamond for the Lady Bucks. When fall comes she will pull out her tennis racket and take to the tennis courts to play her fourth sport.

Congrats to Lady Wildcat sophomore Austynn Falls for a very fine season, as she went 1-2 and came one win short of placing in the state tournament. Falls finished the season with a 30-6 record and improved her career mark to 55-15 with two more seasons to go.

Montgomery captured the team title with 65 points and three place winners, as Zoe Furman (130) was a runner-up, while Jenna Houseknecht (106) and Emily Murphy (124) both finished in third place. Chestnut Ridge was second with 58.5 points, while Easton was third with 56 points.

Wagner was the only District 6 girl to place in the state tournament, while she will be glad to see her nemesis Jael Miller of Punxsutawney graduate as she captured her third state title at 170 pounds and finished with a 70-1 career mark. Williamsports’ Lillian Rumsey placed third at 118 pounds.
