LHU soccer edged out despite comeback bid

MANSFIELD, PA – The Lock Haven women’s soccer team (0-2) fell to Mansfield (2-0), 3-2, on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action today (Wed., Sept. 6).

The Bald Eagles’ leading goal scorer Evelyn Ciaccia (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) scored a pair of goals in the second half to spark the comeback attempt.

After falling behind 3-0 through the opening 73 minutes, Ciaccia scored her first of two goals to jump start the Lock Haven comeback efforts when she fired the ball low and left of the goalkeeper.

Ciaccia cut the Bald Eagles’ deficit to one (3-2) six minutes later when she found the lower right corner for her third goal of the season.

However, time was no longer on Lock Haven’s side and the Mountaineers closed out the final 11 minutes strong to secure the victory.

The Mounties quickly led 2-0 after the first half with goals in the fourth and 17th minutes of play.

Mansfield extended the lead to three with a goal just two minutes into the second half, off a penalty kick.

Haven goalkeeper Megan Miller (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) made four saves in the complete 90 minutes.

Ciaccia led the Bald Eagles’ offense with three shots, all of which were on target.
