Obituary – Ronald K. Young, Sr.
Ronald K. Young, Sr., 65, gained his wings to heaven on Sept 5, 2023, at UPMC Williamsport after a very courageous, almost 3-year battle with a rare High Grade Pleomorphic Sacroma Cancer.
He was born February 6, 1958, the son of the late Clair Young, Sr. and Bernice G. (Yarnell) Young.
He attended Lock Haven High School and married his high school sweetheart, Nancy (Dugan) Young, on August 13, 1977. He was a man of many names: “Dad” to his sons Ron, Jr. (Amber) and Jason (Tiffany) and his daughter, Katie (Sean) Klecker; “Pap” to Chase, Amelia and Hux Young, and Connor and Caleb Kleckner; “Pappy Ron” to Hunter and Gwynne Showers and Remington Ripka; “Captain” to his truck driving friends; and “Mobe” to his buddies in the fire service.
Ron was a lifetime member of Dunnstown Fire Company and held the rank of Captain for 5 years and Assistant Chief for 6 years. He was also a member of Citizens Hose Company of Lock Haven since February 2011. Ron enjoyed being a truck driver and worked at Champion Parts, Nestlerode Contracting and Advanced Drainage Systems where he received the 2009 Driver of the Year. He retired from ADS in 2021 due to his illness after 25 years of service. Ron was a hard worker and dedicated his life to his family and serving the community and surrounding communities when in need.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, being with his friends at the fire hall, NASCAR races, camping and breakfast gatherings with his co-workers from ADS. His most favorite times were family beach vacations, his family Disney trip in 2017 and watching his grandchildren participate at any events they were in.
Ron is survived by his brothers, Clair (Bonnie) Young, Jr. and Jay (Deanna) Young; his sister, Linda (Robert) Holter; two sisters-in-law, Carole Young and Georgette (Floyd) Rupert; two brothers-in-law, Harry (Michele) Dugan and Lloyd (Kim) Dugan; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He’s also survived by his extended family: Greg Hopkins, Amanda Hutchinson, Ray Lowe, Andrea Young, Jodie Walizer, Bubba and Linda Delaney and Kirk and Brenda Webb; and a special nurse at UPMC Shadyside Jill Perona who always said, “You are the most special patient I have ever cared for.” Ron will also be greatly missed by his dog, Meisha.
