Sullivan County gets revenge on Bucktail in 10 innings

Laporte- Last season Sullivan County seen their season end at the hands of Bucktail in the District IV 1A title game. On Thursday afternoon, the Lady Griffins got their revenge in a wild 10-inning marathon, 8-7.
Sullivan smoked freshman pitcher Carrie Ditty and jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings of play.
A single run in the top of the fifth inning had Bucktail up 6-3, but miscues in the bottom of the fifth inning resulted in 3 Lady Griffin runs that tied things up at 6-6.
Bucktail appeared to score the go ahead run in their half of the sixth inning. Sullivan County sent the game into extra innings in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Neither team managed to cross the plate in the 8th or 9th innings, which force the international tiebreaker rule in effect for the tenth inning. Bucktail’s Kendall Wagner advanced to third base, but was unable to score.
Sullivan took advantage of the free runner in their at bat with a shot from Mariah Halabuk that landed in right field allowing the game winning run to score.
Makenna Stone led Bucktail by going 4 for 5 with two doubles. Lola English and Kendall Wagner both collected a pair of hits and each had a double. Mason’s 3-run home run was the Lady Bucks ninth hit of the game.
The Lady Bucks dropped to 4-6 on the season and slipped further behind the 7-3 Sullivan County Lady Griffins in the current 1A district standings.
Bucktail will next be tested by Moshannon Valley (4-5) at home on Monday.
