Wildcats vs. State College in D6 Semis Saturday

cm-wrestlingBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Central Mountain wrestling team now knows its opponent for the semifinal round of the District 6 AAA tournament Saturday: It will be a rematch for the 10-0 Wildcats with 10-6 State College.

The No. 4 seed Little Lions advanced Wednesday night with a 54-19 quarterfinal win over Altoona (5-10). The other semifinal will see No. 2 seed Mifflin County (15-3) meet Bellefonte (10-3); the No. 3 seed Red Raiders advanced Wednesday with a 41-18 win over Hollidaysburg.

Central Mountain and Mifflin County as the top two seeds had first round byes. The championship Saturday will follow the 5 p.m. semifinals in the Tyrone High School gym.

Central Mountain met State College in a regular season dual meet just last Saturday and came away a 62-9 winner. The Wildcats also own wins over Mifflin County, 36-24, and Bellefonte by a score of 48-26.

Saturday’s titlist advances to the PIAA team duals Feb. 5, 6 and 7 at the Giant Center in Hershey. The District 6 champ will have a first round match Thursday, likely with the District 11 runner-up.

The Wildcats tuned up Wednesday night with a 70-3 win at Shamokin (1-7). Falls were recorded by Gavin Caprio, Hunter Weaver and Geo Barzona; additionally CM received six forfeits and picked up a bout termination win from Keanan Bottorf; majors from Colton Weaver and Demetri Probst and an overtime win from Bryce Hanley.
