County unemployment picture a bit better

HARRISBURG, PA – Clinton County’s unemployment picture showed slight improvement for the month of June, according to information released Tuesday by the state Department of Labor & Industry.

The county’s jobless rate for June was 4.3%, down from the 4.5% reading in May. A year ago, the rate was 5.3%. The state estimates that approximately 700 county residents were unemployed at least for part or all of June.

Of the Commonwealth’s 67 counties, Clinton’s 4.3% ranked no. 51. Chester County had the best jobless rate at 2.6% for June, while Forest County had the highest at 5.3%.

For the week ending July 22, 2023, the state says 25 Clinton County residents filed for initial unemployment benefits. A year ago, that number was 16. The continued claim number for the same timeframe was 257, almost identical to the reading in June 2022.
