James L. “Jim” Killinger, Sr., 83, of Laurel Run Rd., Beech Creek, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born on April 16, 1931 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Velma Mae Hamburger Killinger.

Jim wrestled for Lock Haven High School where he graduated from in 1949. He then served in the United States Army as both a medic and a lifeguard.

On March 7, 1953, Jim married the love of his life, the former Shirley Fye, who survives.

Throughout the years Jim held numerous jobs including his first job with the Orviston Brickyard, Fink and Stackhouse, and fifteen years with Piper Aircraft Corporation until their closing. He then was employed by Mill Hall Clay until his retirement in 1996.

Jim loved everything nature including hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, and gardening.

He raised numerous beagles over the years but was especially fond of his coon dog.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children: James (Kass) Killinger, Jr. of Beech Creek, John (Lynda) Killinger of Beech Creek, Joan (Jeff) Stark of Williamsport, Joyce (Tom) Cannon of Mill Hall, and Jeff (Ann) Killinger of Mill Hall; two brothers, Harold Killinger and Ron (Norma) Killinger, both of Beech Creek; 10 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 9 step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Saylor Killinger, and two sisters, Shirley Killinger and Kathryn Cain.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to Nightengale’s Personal Care Home through the funeral home.
