Rams take down Bucktail baseball, 18-3

By Bees O’Brien

BLOOMSBURG, PA- Bucktail hit the road on Tuesday with high hopes against Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, but those hopes would quickly evaporate in the wake of the Rams’ onslaught.

Eight total errors and a huge 12-run third inning by CMVT would quickly take away Bucktail’s 3-1 lead that they held entering the bottom of the second inning. The 12 runs would give the home team the 15-run victory at 18-3.

The Bucks crossed a pair of runners in the top of the first innings and starting pitcher Xander Shearer held CMVT to just one run. Bucktail added another run in the top of the second, but in the CMVT half of the inning the errors began to mount against Bucktail. The Rams would score five runs and take the lead for good at 6-3.

CMVT’s big third inning would end the game by way of mercy rule. CMVT improved to 4-6 and 4-2 in Mid Penn Conference play. Bucktail dropped to 1-5 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.

CMVT only had seven hits and Bucktail had just six hits.

Braylon Fantaski’s two hits and two RBI’s led the Bucks. Xander Shearer also picked up a pair of hits. Kyler Friese and Ethan Kalafut also had hits for the Bucks in the loss.

Bucktail’s road trip to Sullivan County on Thursday has been postponed, but there has been a makeup game for this past Monday’s home contest with Montgomery. That game will now be played on May 5 in Farwell.

The Bucks will next be in action on Friday at home when they face defending District 4 1A champions Benton. The Tigers enter the game at 4-3 and are looking to make another state playoff run. They fell to Halifax in Round One of the PIAA 1A playoffs last season. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. and will be streamed on The Record Online.
