SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Bucktail’s girls basketball season has come down to one final game to qualify for the postseason. Their 52-19 loss at South Williamsport on Saturday now makes their final regular season game at home against Austin an absolute must-win contest.

Bucktail (9-12) sits currently in the number 6 spot in the playoff field, but coach Carl Gentzyel has set his team’s goal to continue on their season at 10 games.

Bucktail didn’t back down from the Mid Penn Conference champions early on and only trailed 11-4 after one quarter of play. The Lady Mounties entered the contest undefeated in conference play.

South would open things up in the second quarter. The Lady Mounties would go on a 14-1 run during the frame to take a comfortable 25-5 lead into the locker rooms.

South continued to pressure the Lady Bucks and extended their lead to 37-12 after 3 quarters of play.

A final 15-7 Lady Mounties’ advantage in the fourth quarter would set the final.

Lacey Kriebel led South Williamsport with 17 points. Aleigha Rieppel finished with 12 for the Lady Mounties.

Kendall Wagner led the Lady Bucks with 7 points. Wagner also grabbed 8 rebounds. Eva Sockman added 4 points and 10 rebounds. Lily Francis also had a strong game on the boards for Bucktail. Francis would lead the Lady Bucks with 11 rebounds and added 3 points. Bella English and Matti Mason each scored 2 for Bucktail. Kayla Probert rounded out the scoring with a point.

Bucktail’s contest with Austin (7-11) is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday and will be aired on The Record Online. Bucktail defeated the Lady Panthers in both teams’ first game of the season clear back on December 2 by a slim 36-27 score.
