KCSB says goodbye to longtime district administrator Mike Hall

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Keystone Central School Board said thank you and goodbye to longtime district administrator Mike Hall at their work session Thursday night.

Hall has spent 19 years with the school district, most recently as principal/athletic director at Bucktail High School. He is leaving that post to become superintendent of the Keystone School District in Knox. In brief remarks, Hall offered his thanks to all who assisted him in his time at Keystone Central, noting he has had four children attend the local schools, what he called “a wonderful place for children.”

A senior at Central Mountain High School, addressed the school board during the public comment period and read a lengthy statement with concerns about safety conditions at the high school. She said there are fights in the hallways and restrooms “two times a week” causing “so many injuries” and said she fears for the safety of herself and others and claimed the problem is “growing worse and worse,” alleging alcohol, vaping and drug use in the restrooms.

She said most of the students at the school “are good kids and enjoy learning.” She requested metal detectors at school entrances “to keep students and teachers safe.” She asked the school board to “please help make our school better.”

Board vice-president Roger Elling, who chaired the meeting, told her the district is “looking into different things” to address her concerns.

Board member Jeff Johnston, chairman of the board’s facilities committee, provided an update on the planned new Liberty-Curtin Elementary School in Blanchard. He said the project is still in its early stage of design and said a representative from project consultant Crabtree Rohrbaugh & Associates would bring everyone up to date at a March board meeting.
