CM’s Perry into Escape the Rock semifinals
HOLLAND, PA – Central Mountain sophomore Dalton Perry is into the Sunday semifinal round at the challenging Escape the Rock wrestling tournament at Council Rock South High School. The defending state champion is part of a 5-member Wildcat crew to make it through the Saturday session of grueling 54-team tourney.
Teammates Luke Simcox, Griffin Walizer, Braylen Corter, Rocco Serafini will be part of Sunday’s 9 a.m. consolation round, followed by the semifinal round at 10:30 a.m. Championship bouts are set for Sunday at 2 p.m.
Perry, the top seed at 133 pounds, edged Hayden Cunningham of State College by a 2-1 score in his quarterfinal and will meet Matt Hart of Western Reserve Academy in the semifinal round.
Simcox, seeded fifth at 139 pounds lost his quarterfinal match by a 7-6 score to Hunter Mason of Greenville. Walizer at 145 was edged by Asher Cunningham of State College by a 4-3 score but remains alive in the consolations.
Corter stayed alive the hard way. The Wildcat senior at 152 pounds lost his first match, 5-2 to Gavin Cole of Council Rock South, but came back to win three consolation contests to advance to Sunday.
Serafini at 189 lost in the second round to Justin Griffith of Sanford by a 9-0 score but bounced back with two consolation wins to remain in the tourney.
Several other CM entries picked up a win apiece before they were eliminated: Gino Serafini at 160, Dakota McDermott at 285 and Giovanni Tarantella at 215.
As a team the Wildcats are in 11th place with 50 points. Malvern Prep leads with 116.5 and Blair Academy second with 113. State College is 13th with 47 points; the Little Lions have two wrestlers in the semifinals in Pierson Manville at 139 pounds and Nick Pavlechko at 285.
