LHU Men’s Basketball edged on the road at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.V. – The Lock Haven men’s basketball team were edged by the hot-shooting Shepherd Rams, 73-64, in a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) battle on Wednesday night (Jan. 15).

The Haven moves to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the PSAC, while Shepherd improves to 11-6 on the season and 7-3 in conference.

Eli Washington (22) and Kevin Coleman (20) each surpassed 20 points to headline the Bald Eagles on the night. Washington knocked down 4-of-6 of his threes, while the front- and backcourt duo combined for 11 rebounds.

Neither team could pull away in a highly contested first half that saw Shepherd come away with a 32-31 advantage.

Shepherd shot over 57 percent from the floor in the half, but The Haven knocked down two additional trifectas and held a slight advantage at the charity stripe to make up the scoring difference.

In the second half, the Haven remained within one score through the opening three minutes, but Shepherd erupted on a 14-7 run over the ensuing seven minutes to extend its lead to 14 (52-38) and never looked back.

Both teams netted five shots from behind the arch in the second half, but Shepherd once again converted over 50 percent of its shot attempts, while holding a six-point advantage at the free-throw line.

Next up for The Haven:

The Bald Eagles remain on the road and will travel to Mansfield on Saturday (Jan. 18) for a 3 p.m. PSAC East showdown.
