Lady Bucks Drop Second Close One of The Week, 49-40 at Millville

By Bees O’Brien

MILLVILLE- For the first time since their battle in the PIAA District IV 1A quarterfinals a season ago, Bucktail met Millville. The Lady Bucks battled past the Lady Quakers a season ago, but standout Millville star Larissa Evans made sure that her squad kept pace in the current district playoff race. Evans netted a game-high 25 to help Millville improve to 7-4 following the 49-40 win.

Both teams were deadlocked at 13-13 following the first quarter of play. A 12-5 Lady Quaker second quarter advantage had Millville up 25-18 at the break.

Bucktail, despite their lack of veteran players continued to fight on in the second half. Both teams netted 11 points in the third frame and the Lady Bucks made strides in the game’s final quarter.

Kendall Wagner buried a three-point basket and Eva Sockman had an offensive put back with 1:13 remaining in the contest to get Bucktail to within 46-40, but that was as close as they would get on this night.

Kendall Wagner’s 17 points and 11 rebounds paced Bucktail. Eva Sockman also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 20 rebounds. Matti Mason added 8 points and Arionna Winkleman chipped in 2 points.

Despite the set-back, Bucktail still remains very much in the postseason hunt with their 4-8 overall record. They will next be in action on Tuesday when they host Benton (5-7).
