LAMAR TOWNSHIP, PA – There is a beautiful new entranceway at the Cedar Hill Cemetery just off Fishing Creek along the Mackeyville Road and the board from the cemetery association on Friday formally thanked lifelong Lamar Township residents Grant and Jeanne Miller for making it possible.

The Millers made the new archway a reality through their $47,000 funding, given in the names of their late parents, C. Gordon and Grace Miller and Joseph and Irene Johnstonbaugh. A plaque marking their contribution is part of the new entrance.

Association president Dick Bowman said the Millers have “always been an asset to the community and have always given back.” He noted that Rus Shaffer of RUS Contracting had done the archway construction work, Condo’s Incorporated made the arch and Rob Bowman had done the paving work. The association president said the new entrance replaces an earlier entrance at the upper end of the cemetery, which had been taken out of use some years ago. The new entryway, he said, is a safer location and accents the cemetery which dates back to 1869.

President Bowman thanked multiple others for their financial assistance, including the Lamar Township Supervisors who make an annual donation to the cemetery upkeep. He said it takes approximately $40,000 to maintain the cemetery grounds and the association gets limited funding from the sale of burial plots.

Association members include Grant Miller, Dick and Carol Bowman, Denny and Dawna Mann and Dick Long who were present for the Friday event and Bob Gilmore and Curt Willar who were unable to be present.
