Crunch Time in Farwell: Magic in the Air around the corner
By Bees O’Brien
FARWELLl, PA- A few weeks back, I wrote a story that appeared in The Record in regards to the start of the Christmas Lights Season. On Central Ave in Farwell, Christmas lights mean an entirely different thing and many residents and their displays are quickly approaching the big day.
That day is the annual “A Little Magic in the Air” celebration on Saturday. This event can consume many and it’s surely consumed our family at the end of the avenue. Every single off day has seen my wife and myself along with other helpers here at the house until way after the sun has set. If you’ve seen our display, you’d know that sunlight is a factor that we really don’t need to rely on. People have scoffed at me when I told them that we are far from finished.
Sunday was like a “Super Sunday” for residents. The whole way up Central Avenue, citizens could be seen continuing to work on their displays or trying to do a mad rush and began their decorating.
I was predicting that we would be close to 98 percent finished following Sunday. I better stick to predicting sports outcomes, because I was way off. We’re now hovering around 80 percent completion with just Thursday left as our only available day to tighten up the loose ends.
We’ll never be 100 percent until the day of, due to some of our displays are only meant for the night of Magic In the Air. Even then it’s never safe to say we’re at full capacity. The addiction can be dangerous and additions always seem to happen.
We’ve got plenty of new additions for 2022. One of which is the new gingerbread house and scene that my wife Lori and our granddaughter Brynne teamed up on. We also have added some new inflatable blowups to our display, including a 12-foot lighthouse and keen-eyed light gazers may also spot the hiding light up raccoon.
We have plenty more new features that we don’t want to disclose until this Saturday night when the festivities begin.
It’s been a huge work in progress with lots of man hours and plenty of dollars spent to make this lightshow visible from the moon. We’re almost there.
In the end it’s worth it when you see the amazing reactions from all the little ones that walk up to our display. That’s really what it is all about in the end.
I also won’t turn down any volunteers wishing to help disassemble the display in early January when temperatures are in the single digits!
