Clinton County ready for Election Day next Tuesday

LOCK HAVEN, PA – Clinton County voter registrar Maria Boileau indicated Thursday that her county office is ready for next Tuesday’s general election. Boileau announced final county voter registration numbers at the commissioners’ meeting and said the county is in “good shape” in terms of poll workers for the Nov. 8 election.

The numbers show 21,967 county residents are registered to vote. The breakdown: Republicans, 12,135; Democrats, 6,954; Libertarians, 118; Green Party, 26; others, 2,734.

Boileau said as of Thursday, 2,472 requests for mail-in or absentee ballots had been received by the county and 1,892 returned thus far. She noted they are due back in her Piper Building office by 8 p.m. on election day.

At the top of the ballot are two statewide races with national implications. Listed first is the US Senate contest where Democrat John Fetterman and Republican Mehmet Oz are running to replace incumbent Patrick Toomey (R) who chose not to seek reelection. Polls show a tight race as the election approaches between Fetterman, the state’s current Lt. Governor, and Oz, a former celebrity tv doctor.

Next on the ballot is the race for governor. Current state Attorney General Josh Shapiro is the Democratic nominee, state Sen. Doug Mastriano the Republican candidate. Polls show Shapiro with a lead. The winner will replace incumbent Gov. Tom Wolf who is limited to two terms by state law.

Two legislative races will complete the Clinton County ballot. As a result of redistricting, Clinton County is back in the 15th US Congressional district where the incumbent, Republican Glenn Thompson from Howard, is seeking another term. He is opposed by Union County businessman Mike Molesevich, a Democrat..

There will also be a revised 76th State House district. Clinton County remains in the district, but the eastern portion of Centre County has been replaced by a western portion of Union County. Incumbent Republican Stephanie Borowicz of Wayne Township is vying for a third term in Harrisburg. Her opponent is Democrat Denise Maris from Renovo, a human resources director.
