More improvement for Clinton employment picture

HARRISBURG, PA – Clinton County showed improvement in the unemployment rate in September, according to information released Tuesday by the state Department of Labor & Industry.

The county’s unemployment rate for the month was 4.5%, down from the 5.4% listed in August. One year ago in September 2021, the jobless rate for the county was 6.5%.

The state reported that the county’s labor force in September 2022 was estimated to be 17,100 people with 16,400 employed, leaving approximately 800 people on the unemployment list. A year ago, the state listed 1,100 county residents as unemployed.

The county with the lowest rate in September was Chester at 2.5%, and the highest rate of the 67 counties was Forest at 6.2%. Clinton County tied for 45th.

For the seven-day period ending Oct. 22, the state reported that two county residents filed for initial unemployment benefits. The continued claim number was listed at 199, down from 348 in late October 2021.
