CM boys’ soccer takes marathon from Mifflinburg
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – It took 93 minutes instead of the usual 80, but the Central Mountain Wildcat boys’ soccer team was able to pull out the 1-0 win on Tuesday night for their third win in a row. The fellow Wildcats of Mifflinburg traveled to Malinak Stadium, coming in with a similar record as CM. The game between these two teams is always physical, always close, and always seems to be a defensive battle. Last year’s contest saw Mifflinburg pull out the 1-0 win in overtime.
This year, Central Mountain was able to get the goal they needed. Plenty of dangerous chances were created all night by Lincoln Breon and Asher Talbot, and possession was kept in the midfield by Zane Cooper, Pierce Long, Jack Grieco, and Griffin Confer. They just couldn’t get the final pass to connect for the goal.
Finally, three minutes into the second overtime, Talbot turned and got on the dribble into the box, where he was taken down by the Mifflinburg defender. Junior Peyton Jones stepped up to take the penalty kick and buried it in the left side of the net for his 10th goal of the season.
The backline was solid all night, earning the shutout with goalie Kyle Stahl.
The boys are now 5-9-1 with two games left to play in the next two days, starting with Midd-West on Wednesday night. They currently sit third in the D6 AAAA standings and are looking to keep the momentum and play forward.
