Commissioners support September as Hunger Action Month
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Clinton County Commissioners at their Thursday meeting approved a proclamation declaring September as Hunger Action Month. Jennifer Kurelja, agency services manager with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, accepted the proclamation.
She encouraged everyone to raise awareness on the issue of hunger in our communities and to raise our collective voices to advocate, educate and work together to end hunger and food insecurity.
The proclamation:
WHEREAS, hunger and poverty are issues of critical concern in Clinton County where 13% of people are food insecure and one in every 6 children do not know where their next meal will come from; and
WHEREAS, Clinton County is committed to taking action to eliminate hunger in every part of our community, as well as providing additional resources to those in need in the community; and
WHEREAS, Clinton County is dedicated to collaborating with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and its partner agencies to educate people about the role, work and importance of food banks in addressing food insecurity and raising awareness of the need to devote further resources and attention to hunger issues; and
WHEREAS, the month of September has been established as “Hunger Action Month” for the purpose of bringing attention to and raising awareness about food insecurity in our communities. This includes engaging the public in action to end hunger one person at a time; and
WHEREAS, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, its partner agencies, and other food banks across the country will host numerous events throughout September to bring awareness to food insecurity and help end hunger in their local community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Clinton County Board of Commissioners does hereby recognize September 2022, as HUNGER ACTION MONTH in Clinton County and calls this observance to the attention of our citizens.
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is a nonprofit organization committed to ending hunger in 27 counties across central Pennsylvania. By working with more than 1,300 local agencies and programs, the Food Bank serves over 152,000 people in need each month through the organization’s two Healthy Food Hubs, located in Harrisburg and Williamsport.
