US Senate candidate Oz hits opponent Fetterman in Lock Haven visit
LOCK HAVEN, PA – An estimated 300 Republicans turned out Tuesday evening for the grand opening of the Clinton County Republican headquarters in the former Walker Hardware location. GOP US senatorial candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz was the principal speaker, and he spared no words in criticizing John Fetterman, his Democratic opponent in the November election.
He claimed Fetterman, the current Lieutenant Governor, is “the most radical candidate ever” and will not debate Oz. The celebrity surgeon, in his first run for political office, said Fetterman wants to “pack” the US Supreme Court, wants to do away with the senate filibuster, supports open borders and “dismisses the value of police.”
Oz spoke for some 20 minutes, answered several questions and then posed for pictures before departing. Much of his talk was aimed at Fetterman who, he claimed, “never actually worked in his life,” adding, “he doesn’t seem to be qualified for anything.” He hit Fetterman for his support of public education, stating that Fetterman’s children go to a private school.
Oz urged his audience to “stay on message that he’s too radical” and if Fetterman won’t debate, “he is not eligible to be a senator.” He noted Fetterman has made few public appearances over the summer, the Lt Governor suffering a stroke just before the May primary; Oz, meanwhile, said he has made some 180 appearances.
Other speakers included Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-76) and Raelene Decker, North Central Regional Director for the party’s gubernatorial candidate, state Sen. Doug Mastriano. Both said the November election is “a spiritual battle, good vs. evil.” Decker said Mastriano pledges to do away with no-excuse mail-in voting. Earlier in the evening GOP county chairman Kurt Smith urged those in attendance to “be ready to vote” after receiving a mail-in ballot, noting they can be exchanged at their polling place for a regular ballot on election day.
Penny Thompson, wife of US Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson, spoke on behalf of her husband who was unable to attend. She said they will be happy to welcome Clinton County back into Thompson’s district in the new year.
