Painting traffic control boxes okayed for Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, PA – Lock Haven City Council Monday night gave its approval to a Downtown Lock Haven Inc. request to paint the recently installed traffic signal controller cabinets in the Central Business District.

Council approval was unanimous to the control box request, one of half a dozen requests from the downtown organization. Downtown Manager Kira Rosamilia made a brief presentation to the city and approval quickly followed. As explained by the downtown official, the organization would like to work with other community groups to paint the black boxes; specifically asking that local artists paint the boxes as part of the downtown beautification effort.

She said the request has been heard from multiple community members. She proposes partnering with other local organizations, including the city, Clinton County Arts Council and Lock Haven University and a committee would be set up to carry out the project in 2023.

The downtown manager said PennDOT has been contacted and said any such painting would be a local policy decision.

Other plans presented by Rosamilia and approved by the city include the display of holiday inflatables in Canal Park from Dec. 3 to Jan. 7; closure of a portion of Sarah’s Alley on Nov. 26 for live reindeer; use of W. Main St. and nearby streets on Nov. 26 for carriage rides; and use of a portion of Sarah’s Alley in January of next year for installation of a temporary ice-skating rink.
