Keystone 12s claim District 12 title

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Keystone 12 All-Star team surged to the District 12 title Friday night, hammering out 11 hits on the way to a 13-4 win over a gritty Muncy team.

The tempo was set early, Keystone with three runs in the top of the first, the big hit a 2-run homerun over the centerfield fence from Hayes Donley. Manager Ben Falls’ team added four more in the third behind singles from Luke Nonemaker, Donley, Kyle Everett and Brody Swanger.

Muncy drew close in the bottom of the third with three runs, within 7-4 at that point. But Keystone put the game away with a six-run fourth, sending ten batters to the plate; they did it on just three hits, singles from Nonemaker, Blake King and Alex Johnson, and had help from three Muncy walks. That made the score 13-4 at that point and that’s how it ended.

Everett went the first two inning on the mound and gave up no hits and one unearned run; King finished up, going four innings, allowing five hits and three runs, striking out six and walking three. Muncy, playing its third game in three days, ran out of pitchers, using five in all.

Nonemaker finished with two singles, Donley with a homerun and single. Everett had a double and single, walked once and scored three runs. Singles came from King, Jaiden McCloskey, Swanger, Johnson and Ryan Boone. Brody Goss paced Muncy’s five-hit attack with two singles and two RBIs.

With the win and the district title, Keystone moves on to Sectional tournament scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 19, hosted by the Pottsville Little League. Keystone’s first-round game will be at 5:30 p.m. that date against the District 13 champ from the Danville area.

Friday’s game did not end until well after 11 p.m. as the Keystone 11s played an earlier game at Volunteer Stadium. The 11s lost to East Lycoming, 8-7, and will have a winner-take-all-game Saturday at 10 a.m., to be streamed on therecord-online.
